Father Timothy Radcliffe

Priest, honorary Oxford University fellow and Author

Timothy Radcliffe OP joined the English Province of the Dominican Order in 1965, and was ordained a priest in 1971. He studied in Oxford University, and Paris. He was a chaplain to the University of London in 1974 – 76, before returning to Oxford, where he taught for twelve years. In 1992 he was elected Master of the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans), finishing his term in 2001. He is now an itinerant preacher and lecturer, based in, Oxford, spending half the year traveling until covid! He was a Trustee of the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development for fourteen years and is a patron of ‘Embrace the Middle East’.

He is an Honorary Fellow of St John’s College, Oxford, and Doctor of Divinity hon. causa of Oxford University, and also from Fribourg University and ten other universities in Italy, France and the United States. He has written several books, which have been translated into 24 languages, the most of which is ‘Alive in God: a Christian imagination’ (2019). He was awarded the Michael Ramsey Prize for theological writing in 2007. He is a Sarum Canon of Salisbury Cathedral and has the freedom of the city of London.

Imam Sayed Razawi

British scholar and religious leader

Imam Sayed Razawi is a British scholar and religious leader with a research interest in Islamic philosophy, mysticism, and comparative religion. In particular, he focuses upon the concept of “love” theoretically and applies his insights as a practitioner of theology to expound upon the values and thought-system of Islam on one hand and to undertake interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding through civil society engagement on the other.

He is the Chief Imam and Director General of the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society (SABS). He is also an associate and a director at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, as well as being a Visiting Scholar at the University of Strathclyde.

Nationally, he has served as an advisor on the United Kingdom’s Independent Sharia Review commissioned by Theresa May and participates as a member of the Oxfam GB Zakat Advisory Panel. He is also a trustee for Faith for the Climate.

Internationally, Imam Razawi is a trustee and member of multiple international organizations and non-governmental bodies including an international Trustee of Religions for Peace (RfP), a member of the European Council of Religious Leaders (ECRL), a member of the United Nation (UN) Multi-Faith Advisory Council, and an advisory board member of the Islamic Reporting Initiative (IRI).

Religious Engagement in Peacebuilding – A Common Ground Approach

This is a 17-hour online course developed in partnership with the United States Institute of Peace and is available for free on its Global Campus. Over 2000 people have signed up for the course since its launch in July 2021. The course is also available in French and Arabic.

The Universal Code of Conduct on Holy Sites website

This Universal Code maps out a practical code of conduct and policy for sacred places worldwide, aiming to improve the protection of holy sites and promote inter-religious reconciliation. Completed in 2011 after a three-year development process, the Universal Code is now endorsed by senior religious leaders from over ten faiths and numerous religious institutions. Field projects implementing the Universal Code in local contexts are being directed in several countries around the world.
