The artist’s work for the Summit centers around pieces from her concrete sculpture series, Core.
A film by Maddi Barber documenting the path of the raw material towards its transformation into cement and art pieces, as well as interactions of performers with the artist’s sculptures will be premiered during the Summit at the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao.
June will also produce three new, related works to be placed in a public space and used as a playground, a place to contemplate or to ‘dance’ with the pieces that remind us of the interplay between what is absolute and grounded, and the ephemeral and elusive.
As an acclaimed artist who lives and works in Bilbao – Biscay, June Crespo sculpts with materials such as fabric, concrete, fiberglass, plaster, and wax. Solo and group exhibitions in many countries and multiple awards have secured June Crespo’s place as one of the most thoughtful and inventive artists of her generation. Her works are part of the collection of Artium and Museo Reina Sofía, among others.
June Crespo’s work appeals to the infrastructure of the pieces, where what’s visible to the eye is what supports, the basis, the foundation, the conditions that allow for a relationship to emerge, either literally -as a combination of materials-, or conceptually.

El trabajo de la artista para The Wellbeing Summit se centrará en piezas de su serie de esculturas de hormigón, Core.
June Crespo producirá cinco nuevas obras, que se colocarán temporalmente junto al Museo de Bellas Artes y será utilizadas por el público como zona de recreación, lugar de descanso y contemplación, o como un lugar para “bailar” con las piezas que actúa como recordatorio de la interacción en nuestras vidas entre lo que es absoluto y arraigado, con lo efímero y esquivo.
Una película realizada en colaboración con Maddi Barber, una cineasta de Pamplona, documentará el proceso de la elaboración de las piezas de hormigón y las interacciones con las obras de la artista, revelando aspectos de la superficie, la fricción y el tacto también como decodificación del ADN de los materiales. La película se estrenará como parte de la programación artística de la cumbre.
Como aclamada artista que vive y trabaja en Bilbao – Vizcaya, June Crespo esculpe con materiales como tela, hormigón, fibra de vidrio, yeso y cera. Exposiciones individuales y colectivas en muchos países y múltiples premios han asegurado el lugar de June Crespo como una de las artistas más reflexivas e inventivas de su generación. Sus obras forman parte de la colección de Artium y del Museo Reina Sofía, entre otros.
